Course Description: This course is implemented to complement all academic subjects and will provide various benefits to all students. The course will assist students with completing assignments/activities for their other academic subjects, general organization skills, note-taking skills, learning how to study, and applying unique learning styles to result in successful study habits. Students are encouraged to apply what they learn to their other academic subjects. The course will cover topics such as (but not limited to): Good Studying, Interpreting and Creating Visual Aids, Reading and Taking Notes from Textbooks, Taking Notes in Class, Using Reference Sources, Interpreting and Constructing Graphic Organizers and Charts, Remembering Information, Taking Tests, Reading, Building Vocabulary Through Reading, and Solving Math Word Problems. During this course we will make use of a variety of instructional methods such as independent study, large group activities, and small group activities. Community resource people such as guidance counselors, student success center directors, professional tutors, and supplemental instruction leaders may be involved as guests in class. The course will also provide information and competency building activities designed to provide students with the ability to analyze, evaluate, and learn logical thinking and problem solving skills that will enable them to make good decisions in their daily lives.
